Complete denial of the realities of this world can be deadly
8/17/18 – It’s so sad, and dangerous, that some people refuse to believe that there are cultures and individuals who do not share Western values and, in fact, view it as an enemy.
If this well-meaning but ignorant couple had simply investigated where they were going, what they wanted to do in a foreign country, and examined the religion and culture of the territory they planned to visit, they would have easily seen that their plan was not a good idea.
Yet, some people refuse to believe facts staring then in the face.
It’s sad that we’ve lost four people (there were two other bikers with them from Netherlands and Switzerland) who seemed to have a good heart and wanted to treat people lovingly.
It’s dangerous, however, when people like this refuse to believe reality and also try to push their naivete on others.
Now, they have sadly become yet another cautionary tale, like the many people in Europe who traveled to try to make nice with ISIS.
This behavior is quite literally madness, to refuse to see what is happening right in front of them.
- having false or unrealistic beliefs or opinions: Senators who think they will get agreement on a comprehensive tax bill are delusional.
- Psychiatry. maintaining fixed false beliefs even when confronted with facts, usually as a result of mental illness: He was so delusional and paranoid that he thought everybody was conspiring against him.
